Is it always Groundhog Day?

Are we doomed to repeat past mistakes?
One would expect the public and the government to recognize¬†certain past mistakes, and to take actions to ensure they aren’t repeated.

  • Ill-fated foreign wars
  • Financial market bubbles
  • Municipal government budgetary woes
  • The power of money

In the film Groundhog Day, Bill Murray, playing a TV weatherman assigned to cover the annual Groundhog Day event in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, finds himself repeating the same day over and over again.

How is it that we seem unable to keep the past in focus?
